Cardboard Portraits

Illustration, Cardboard Etching

These portraits were created as part of a personal project to create distinct images from a single medium. The medium of choice here being corrugated cardboard.

The images were created from photographic portraits that were vectorised and edited in illustrator to make them more suitable for the process. The images were projected and traced onto the cardboard and cut out using a scalpel.

The subjects of the portraits were various designers I admire. Irish designer Eileen Gray, Danish designer Hans J Wegner and Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa. The portrait of Eileen Gray was borrowed by the Irish Architecture Foundation for their education series TeenCreate as part of their exhibition "The Everyday Experience" in the Irish Museum of Modern art.
